How do we KNOW there are more stars in the sky than there are grains of sand on all our beaches?

Has anyone ever counted them?

There are actually more grains of sands on earth than stars in the sky.  I know.  I counted them.   AND, in case you're wondering, I don't have a life so I had the time.

You, of course, counted the ones on the deserts. Better get busy, girl. Lots of time to  waste.

Once upon a time we were assigned the honeymoon suite when we were in Guatemala, and there was this Spanish poem on the wall, saying

Tell me how many stars are in the sky,
How many grains are in the sands,
And I'll tell you how much I love you.

Guess that makes it a tie, then.

I think its clearly metaphorical. Since we have an accurate count of neither sand grains nor stars, and may never have, who’s to say for certain it’s untrue?

Do you have a fetish for the number 1995? You've used it a number of times. I'm going to predict your response to this.

I was off by 1,995. How about butterflies, kittens and puppies? And of course, unicorns.
