Desperate. My Macaw used to pull that kind of manipulation on me when he was a chick. (1-3 years old) I just ignored him. He would act up, squawk , pretend he was going to bite me, all to get attention. Attention is attention, negative or positive. If you ignore the negative manipulation to get attention, eventually they will bank on getting your attention from being good.
