Of these two items, which do you understand its use the least: the semicolon or the apostrophe?

    The semicolon.  From what I can gather it separates two complete thoughts when it's not clear if you should use a coma or a period.  It's up to the writer's discretion how much he or she wants between those thoughts, right?  Speak, oh wise one.

    Wow, a real difficult question. However; you must decide. I have postponed a lot of story writing due to the complexity of the semicolon. OK, everybody, it's time to take a 'colon' break; I suggest you listen to Colin Hay and his song; 'Overkill'.

  • "Apostrophe" ... a semicolon is what you get after a colonoscopy.  :)
