Discussion»Questions»answerMug Members» Looking at the present questions (besides Element 99s) I have no choice but to go get my grandson a goldfish. Any objections?
get a few so they don't get lonely and of course the proper setup. filters, aerators, proper size tank so they have plenty of room to swim around. have fun
filter...maybe 5 dollars aerator...maybe 25 cents Tank...Good Will (10.00$?) some plants...maybe a couple of bucks You want to bring Smiles to the kids face or see the tears when the goldfish is floating on the top of water? haha
Koi? love em There you go Carbonproduct Do an outside Koi pond would the questions push you that far?
Goldfish are a big responsibility. If you get the right sized tank and have a proper setup and filter and clean the tank regularly and don't overfeed them or subject them to irratic water temperature changes I've had fish that lived for 7 to 10 or more years. If you just get one and throw it in a fish bowl the lifespan isn't very long usually.
Do I object to you buying fish? Yes. They're too much work for what it's worth and kids grow tired of them really quickly and nobody wants to clean the tank and they just get sick and die.
There's somethin' fishy goin' on around here......
Does anyone else smell fish?
This is the ONLY question that came up when I came here. I will have to assume the others on the agenda this morning didn't need as much help as this particular one. Therefore, I would like to add: Your dream of only spending 50 cents on a little feeder fish are out. ;)
PLANTS!!! Don't forget a plant and a sucker fish. Baba and I are on the same plane. You do need a little ventilation in there too.
Try and put yourself in the goldfish's eye. Think about how ugly we all would be. Yuck! And then to be in a solitude of a bowl with nothing to hide behind? All our ugly, warped faces, tapping away at you?! That is a scary thought. And then no gravel to pick at or movement around my gills but stenchy water I just pooped in? Even worse! My goodness! If you're going to do it... carbon, do it with style.
Buy him two really cool looking feeder fish from your pet store. Start them out in a little tank. If you give them some plants, gravel, and a sucker fish with a little filter set up, he will learn the responsibility of taking care of another living thing.
When done correctly, you will have the last laugh because by the time they are ready to go to college, they will have grown with proper feeding to the size of the tank. A good grandson will continue to get bigger tanks and he also is growing. It will be quite an experience. Finally, they WILL be KOIs and worth thousands of dollars! A very fine investment. Winks and smiles!!
If you do go this route, kittens are out next year
