  • No, I'm not a pitbull fan, and I know the pitbull lovers will skewer me and want me dead for saying this, but I really don't care. Some dogs are more likely to be deadly.

It's not the breed. It's never the breed. It's all about how people raise and train their dogs. In places where "dangerous" breeds have been banned the number of dog bites and attacks didn't go down. Other dogs did the biting instead.

We have a people problem, not a dog problem. This post was edited by Just Asking at December 17, 2017 2:37 AM MST

True.  Occasionally an individual dog may be as damaged as some of us humans can be and can act accordingly---but that is rare.

Personally, I would like more information on her death---it's really hard for me to think things happened as suggested.

That doesn't make any sense to me JA. Why? Because it seems every single time a dog attacks it is a pitbull. So there is something about that particular breed that's undependable. I'm not calling you a liar at all. I'm a cat person not a dog person. But if what you say  is true then why aren't all the other breeds of dogs equally culpable? Also I tried to respond to your message and it got returned. I probably screwed something up. So yes to your question. I t's more than okey dokey with me. It will also be a lot easier for me as well. Thank you for the heads up and giving me a choice. Getting back to the bullpit issue. Are they particularly tricky to train? Why are they always the ones who go nuts and attack? Thank you for your reply and Happy Sunday! :) ((hugs)) You know why the hugs, right? This post was edited by RosieG at December 17, 2017 2:47 AM MST

They can be very sweet things.
Personally I don't like big dogs. I like little ones.
Generally it is the owners not treating the dogs properly that causes the problems. We had a dog that was just a mut. He looked like a Husky mix. But he was just a mean dog by nature. He only liked us. He was very territorial over food etc. He did eventually bite someone. A kid who was teasing him. (The parents actually wrote a letter apologizing for the child's actions)

Thank you for your reply m2c. Maybe they can be very sweet but every dog attack I read about is due to pitbulls. That's gotta more than random chance or coincidence. At least it seems so to me! Happy Sunday m'dear! :)

They are big and strong dogs so if they do attack, they are gonna do more damage so it makes the the news. We have a small doxie, the first week we had her she bit the neighbors son in the ear, they were playing and the boy was rubbing his hair on the puppy. It actually looked like a piercing. The parents just laughed it off...cause it didn't really harm their kid. Now had it been a pit bull or a Rottweiler it would have been a much bigger deal with a worse injury.

According to the news, she was training them to be fighting dogs.  If she taught them to be killers
    what do you expect?

Plenty....Huskies, Akias, Rottweiler,  German Shepherds, labordors....any lg strong dog. Also many times dogs are misidentified as pit bulls. How many of these 25 dogs are pitbulls?

People are idiots.  There is no way to be alive and not know those dogs are dangerous.  All of them...they can turn on a dime.

It's not fair to demonize the entire breed just because of a bad few. That's what happens in Britain. Sweet and innocent dogs, puppies included, are rounded up and executed just because pitbulls are outlawed there. It's retarded.

Lots of dogs bite people, Rosie. It's just that the smaller breeds aren't as powerful.

Aggressive dogs that have bitten people, pitbulls included, should be destroyed. I have no problem with that. But only the individual ones that are proven. The issue for me is destroying the ones that haven't done anything wrong at all. You might as well damn all humans as well because of the few bad ones who have beaten or killed others. But you know that would be ridiculous, right? Most pitbulls are nice, sweet dogs that have been raised properly. There are literally hundreds of thousands of them all over the place. If they were all bad they would have wiped out most of the population. It's not the epidemic you think it is.

How many other breeds have YOU read about that attack/maul to death their owners or strangers or little kids? Thank you for your reply. It wasn't remotely helpful. It was kinda snarky. Happy Sunday.

it doesnt have to be helpful, you asked for an opinion. if a dog is bred and taught to be aggressive, its going to be aggressive.

if some irresponsible parent lets their crappy kid lay all over the family dog and pull its ears and tail, they are probably going to get bit.

Many people in this country subscribe to a subculture of raw power.  Which manifests itself in possession of guns, weapons, big cars and trucks, machines, and dangerous pets.  Having such raw power makes them feel good about themselves and I guess safer.  Or possibly superior to others.

We have had several Pit bulls over the years and they were all great dogs.
I would not have a pet that was mean.
The worst ones I have seen were little dogs who were spoiled and were not taught any manners.
