  • Probably no one tells the truth 100% of the time in his or her whole lifetime.
And probably no one lies 100% of the time either.

It is necessary for the listener to learn how to listen, how to discern a possible or probable lie, and how (with a bit of effort) to discover the facts.

There is a kind of logic in all lying which derives from motive.
Learn the motive for saying what is said, and the rest becomes discernible.

The there's that hackneyed old truth: You can fool some of the people some of the time...
    You know how it goes.

Happy New Year to thee, Rosie,
    with warmth,

Of course there are different kinds of lies. You visit a friend in the hospital who  is very ill who says "I must look terrible" and you say "You sure do"? Of course you don't. You  say "you sure look good to me" or something equally upbeat. That is a forgivable and very kind lie it seems to me. It is very insulting and disrespectful when folks lie to you. Even more so are those times when your eyes and ears tell you what's true and they baldfaced lie anyway because they think you are so stupid or so gullible you will believe anything they tell you. Sadly they are absolutely correct. Some folks are that gullible. Thank you for your thoughtful reply Manna and Happy New Year to thee as well! Love, Rosie :)
