No one WANTS to be a hypocrite but maybe we can't escape it. I'm one(see below). Are you?

I wouldn't wear a fur coat if you paid me a zillion bucks to do so. BUT I LOVE LEATHER. Hypocrite! :( Not proud of it but there it is. Are you a hypocrite too about something?

I think that most (likely all) of us would find we are hypocrites about things which we have no experience of, yet freely judge others for. Things that may seem cut-and-dried to someone on the outside can suddenly be seen not just from a new perspective, when it becomes up-close and personal, but with all the facts previously unknown revealed.

On a less life-altering level, I'll admit to hypocrisy, too. I don't buy certain products or shop at certain stores for various reasons, for example, yet, if I receive a gift card from one of those stores, I will use it.

SIGH. Thank you for your honest reply. I think the best of intentions are easily pushed offtrack because of things like that. Thank you for your honestly. Above all else I value honesty and kindness as the very BEST traits in human beings, bar none! :)Ah. Another question cometh. This post was edited by RosieG at January 11, 2018 1:54 AM MST

Hard not to be---the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak

But I am never hypocritical in the sense of preaching other than what I actually believe to be true. This post was edited by tom jackson at January 11, 2018 1:54 AM MST

Exactly tom. Funny thing (odd not humerous) I didn't always recognize it! Leather purses. Leather shoes. I even bought a beautiful black leather coat. All the while looking down my nose at those who would wear the fur of animals on their backs! Then reality hit and I felt very small. I still have a leather purse. I don't know what happened to the leather coat and I wear sandals mostly which are probably leather. Knowing  doesn't change me sad to say. But at least I don't kid myself or feel oh-so-superior to fur wearers. Alas! The dichotomy smacks us in the face. Knowing better doesn't mean you will do better:(  Thank you for your reply. I wonder why knowing better and not doing it happens so often? It should change us, shouldn't it? This post was edited by RosieG at January 11, 2018 2:01 AM MST

Good topic Rosie.  It's so easy for us to point at others when we are also likely guilty of some of the same.  I don't always recognize it in myself until I can look back.  It's just another part of being human.

I too love people that can readily admit they fall short.  It's those that can't that I will never be able to relate to.

I love  you too PeaPod. Thank you for your kind answer. Maya Angelou said "when we know better we do better". Well not always. The potential is there but sometimes you just keep doing what you're doing anyway! AARRGGHH! :)

You are very kind Rosie.  I do my best today and always hope I can do better tomorrow.

I love Maya Angelou.  She said a lot of inspirational things.

I completely agree with you PeaPod vis a vis Maya Angelous.  It was a great loss when she died but her words live on in poetry and books. She left wonderful tracks and a great legacy. Thank you for your reply m'dear! :)

Fur and leather are different. Leather is taken from food animals. Fur is taken from animals slaughtered for just their fur. Most people see killing to eat as morally different from killing to satisfy vanity.

Besides, having contradictory beliefs is not hypocrisy. It simply indicates a person hasn't thought things through or feels conflicted.

A person is only a hypocrite if they CLAIM a virtue that they don't possess.

Well, at least you didn't kill as many things as you could have if you liked fur.

I try not to use leather.   I have some.

I don't eat meat or animals but I eat fish.  So, I do the best I can.

It's better than being the other way and not caring about anything at all.

But I didn't always realize it Sharon and when it finally hit me I felt like such an A**! Feeling so superior to fur wearers for YEARS while all along there I was enjoying using leather. Geez I felt so stupid!  I know better but I don't do better. Bummer. Thank you for your reply! :)
