Sorry I can't help you. I'm still stuck on pleaded vs. pled. I believe the correct usage should be "he pled guilty." I don't care if it is a "weak verb" I think it sounds better than "he pleaded guilty." (this grinds against my senses)
Garner states that "The best course is to treat plead as a weak verb, so that the correct past tense, as well as past participle, is pleaded." He goes on to say that pled and plead are alternative past- tense forms with "some standing" in American English (and that "pled" is a common variant in legal usage).
Now that I think about it, Yes, you are correct. Hawaii is a place Hawaiian is something from Hawaii. Sorry, I was momentarily sidetracked with the pled vs. pleaded. It will always be a sticking point.
