It is/was a site similar to ours, but it was more of a spinoff of EP, whereas this was an AB alternative. Theirs was more about sharing stories, whereas we're more about info/ Q&A. I don't know any stats- they used a paid membership model. I think that probably kept their numbers lower, particularly after SW opened. Just a guess. From what I can tell from the outside looking in, it was small, but close-knit. That's not where all the newcomers are coming from, but a few are from there.
I'm glad things are picking up here. I noticed there are some really creative, good questions put out there. It's certainly the most active site I am aware of.
AB is a good example of the most common problem faced by all forums: a clique forms and they are awfully harsh on anybody who fails to amuse them. People go find some other venue, and then the clique members go away because the board has become boring. I have not checked fluther.com in a while, but that site had the same problem.
The number of sites resembling AM is dwindling. You are seeing the refugees who don't know of anyplace else to go.
I was thinking probably people have heard this is a really cool and great site to be at and are coming here through word of mouth from us oldies. Good news travels fast :) :D! I like seeing new faces and new thoughts are always fun. Making new friends is too.....But, What I like more is coming on knowing my friends are already here. Stability and loyalty to friends are big with me.
