Christianity believes in compassion but also in justice.
We can't, with compassion, let those in need suffer. Though we can't, with justice, steal the wealth of others. Two wrongs don't make a right. God, in his infinite wisdom, is able to marry the two concepts together perfectly. It's no easy task.
Christianity is about charity, not socialism and free will, not extortion.
