Wonder how many donjohn voters say they can't be bought at any price? A moral scumbag is prez. He bought them didn't he?

They say they didn't vote for him for his morals. They know he is a scumbag. They voted for him for what he said he would do for then. How is that NOT being bought at a price? He dangled what they wanted so they held their noses and voted for him. Purchase price was a vote. All he has to do is provide the wall, jobs and ban all immigrants (people of color) from entering the US. They did their part. When will he do his?

Oh like the left doesn't buy votes! What do you think welfare is? A trillion dollar a year vote buying operation. Typical leftist, self blind lack of perspective.

Most people on both sides of the political spectrum vote based on their self interest. That is obvious. Some people on both sides actually believe in something and vote on the basis of what they think benefits society as a whole.

Self interest is human nature. Instead of just admitting it, the leftist virtue signals that they are somehow spiritually on a higher level. Bullsh*t! The left is just dirty inside; a demon posing as an angel of light. This post was edited by Zeitgeist at January 26, 2018 8:12 AM MST

Self interest is human; enlightened self interest preserves democracy.

An example of enlightened would have been your not posting "What do you think welfare is? A trillion dollar a year vote buying operation" before checking that information.

To wit:  --The federal government spends just $212 billion per year on what we could reasonably call “welfare.” (Even then, the poor have to enter the institution of waged labor to get the earned income tax credit.) And there have been numerous studies showing that these programs, especially things like food stamps, are both very efficient and effective at reducing poverty. They just don’t show up in the official poverty statistics, because that’s how the poverty statistics are designed.

Arguments about what can "reasonably" be called welfare are irrelevant. Any study would come up with a different number depending on what their definition of welfare is. It's a grey area. Some on the right are likely to try to overstate this number as a pretext to claim the spending is too high. Some on the left are likely to try to understate this number as a pretext to claim the spending is not a problem.

In my view $1 trillion is a more appropriate measure of welfare spending. As far as this discussion is concerned, it doesn't matter what the number is. The point is that Rosie's argument is one sided, virtue signalling leftist nonsense, that implies the selflessness of left wing voters. A sick joke. You are nitpicking at side issues because you know she has no argument.

I vote in my self interest though I also believe in something. Even if I were very poor, I'd still be on the right because I genuinely believe no sustainable civilisation is possible if we depart from conservative principles. I want our civilisation to have a future. Conservatives values are the definition of enlightened self interest. This post was edited by Zeitgeist at January 26, 2018 4:07 PM MST
