Most Americans have some sort of involvement in the stock market.

Yes I am. I had stocks years before I started my business.  I did not work and my husband was a construction worker.

Nearly half of Americans, 48 percent, are currently  investing in the stock market—either by buying individual stocks or mutual funds, or through a retirement account such as a 401(k) or IRA, according to a new Bankrate.com survey.

Yes has been a good year for many people.  For us (and we have a lot of foreign clients) as well as for my husband's company.

Good to hear. I have a retail manufacturing business. We are very excited for this year. We have been able to do somethings that we know will help business that we have never been able to afford to do before. We are seasonal so I cannot wait until March to open up.

Oh I wish you the best.  I do think there has been a more positive climate for business of late.  You can almost feel it in the air.  Quite exciting really.

  • Beats the Hell out of the economic doldrums we've been in. I don't have a stock portfolio so I get nothing. I too agree that it's an exciting change of pace. Why some people are so proud of dependence on inept government is way beyond me.

You say elsewhere "48%". That isn't most. It's only almost half. So you are doing well financially. You are part of the group that totally benefits from donjohn. He doesn't give a rat's a** about me or others like me m2c and I return the sentiment completely. My America and yours are not the same. I worry about outliving our small pensions..especially with  the a**hole Paul Ryan setting his sights on GUTTING Medicare/Medicaid/Social Security. No wonder you love your president. You're richer because of him. You and I do not lead the same lives. Yours is privilgeged. I get it. You vote your pocketbook. Thank you for your reply. I did not know. Now I do.  :) :(

I don' know anyone doing worse. I also know no one on Social Security has got or is getting a cut in their check. I fact everyone is getting an increase in their SS check this year. Yes, I know it is the Cost of living increase. Which is normally an annual increase since 1975, with 3 exceptions (2009, 2010, and 2015...all 3 under Obama...draw your own conclusion)
And if you have a pension, those are normally tied to stocks so the stock market is a good thing for you as well. Even if it is just to keep your pension afloat. This post was edited by my2cents at January 26, 2018 1:15 PM MST

    Hi Rosie:

Not sure it matters, since the stock market is not a zero-sum game. No matter what percentage of folks benefit directly from a strong market, that does not, in turn, do harm to non-participants.
