Turn a phrase. Turn a blind eye. Turn of the Screw. Turn a profit. Turn your ankle. Turn the room upside down. Turn against. Infinite turns?

Turn up. Turn over. Turn under. Turn back. Turn down. Turn into. Turn on. Turn off. Turn out. Turn the tables. Turn the tide. Wait for your turn. Do a good turn. Has the milk turned? The list of uses seems infinite. Was there ever such a useful word as turn? The chameleon of words? If so which, why and where can it be used?

The Byrds – Turn! Turn! Turn! Lyrics

Words-adapted from The Bible, book of Ecclesiastes
    Music-Pete Seeger

    To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

    To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

    To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing

    To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late

I always liked that song Sharon. So can you think of a more useful word than "turn" with so many ways to include it in everyday conversation? Thank you for your reply.

I preferred The Seekers' cover of that one.

You copied me.  Dang your hide.  LOL

    Seriously, thanks for posting that

I liked the Seekers a lot and I first heard that song when the Byrds came up with the Popular version.

I bought a Bonnie Tyler satnav. It was useless, kept telling me to turn around and every now and then it fell apart.

Is this an Aussie insider joke?

    No, a musical one.

Even then it was better than the U2 satnav. The streets have no name and I still haven't found what I'm looking for.
