To date, there have been five movies in the Terminator franchise. Hasn't the story line of each one been basically the exact same thing?

The Terminator (1984)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)
Terminator Salvation (2009)
Terminator Genisys (2015)

The sixth one is being planned:
Untitled Terminator film (2019)

I'm not sure, but I liked that Terminator Salvation was set in the future and they had to go to the place where the Terminators are actually made and try to destroy everything.
So I guess that was a little different.

  • Pretty much, except for Salvation as Chloe mentioned....A sixth one too? Hopefully minus Aaaaahnie. A Terminator in a wheelchair ain't a good look.

I only saw the first three.  That was enough.

Ahhnald said he'll be back.  He wasn't kidding.

I agree. I know I saw the first two when they originally came out, I may have seen the third, but that shows how memorable it must have been. I didn't realize until yesterday as I posted the question that there were five total and a sixth in the works.

(I wonder what "Sharonna Harrison" and "Randy D" would sound like if Armie said them with that thick accent of his?)

    Did you expect something different?

Well then don't bother watching sequels. They are by definition more of the same.

It's possible you misunderstood me. I was referring to always expecting something in a general sense, not directly in relation to movies or specifically to the Terminator series, and i was only joking around about expecting something different.
I am not dunderheaded enough to believe that Hollywood will ever cater to the highest common multiple, so when I watch a sequel (by choice, by the way), I know the probability of what I will see.

I only posted the question because as I was flipping channels yesterday, one of the Terminator sequels that I had not seen before was on a broadcast channel, and already in progress. I watched idly for a few moments and the dialog was a repeat of the ones I had seen, about how time travel was necessary in order to destroy the origins of future destruction and to protect the heroes of future salvation. The originality struck me (sarcasm), so I posted the question, that's all.
