Have you ever used the internet for a Dr appointment? Would you? Have you, what did you think?

Just did this for my son. He has some acne that just was not responding to OTC products. We have a regular appointment but it is 3 months out.  We found out about this option.
We logged on, answered questions, submitted pictures. And had prescriptions the next day.
The insurance  did not cover the online visit but did the some prescriptions. The Dr had to call and get the insurance to cover one but they did.  The visit cost $59.00.
I thought this was very cool.

  • I haven't done that exactly, but I did once use an app to have a video conference with my doctor so she could go over the results of my blood test. That saved me a trip to the clinic, so I liked the convenience.

Not having to go in is very convenient.

I used it with a specialist that offered it.  I liked it and got immediate results using it.  It's also nice to not be put on hold for 20 minutes, just to make a darn appointment.

It is definitely nicer. No appointment, no waiting.

I only used the internet for appointments.  I didn't know some doctors will even prescribe this way.

This we just uploaded Picts, 1 close up (6in) and 1 (12in). We did it on a Friday afternoon, prescriptions there Sat morning.
But I can see where some issues could not be evaluated in an online visit.

I am assuming this would be for refills and not a new diagnosis?  If it is for refills, I think this is a great idea.

No, we just used it for a new diagnosis. Never been to the office just answered the questions and uploaded the pictures.
Obviously things that need lab work etc cannot be done completely this way. The lab work must be completed. I don't know how anything would work that required this.
I have never had to go to an appointment to get refills just had pharmacy submit or call the Dr. This post was edited by my2cents at February 28, 2018 3:33 PM MST

No. The doctor I visited last year had this option to make appointments and the such. I changed my doctor before I had the chance to use it.

This was everything online, the whole appointment.
We never seen the Dr. No wait, no fuse. Can do it anytime day or night.

I presently do not have health insurance, so I've actually been looking for options like this because I typically get 1-2 sinus infections per year that won't clear up. I contacted one place I saw advertised that charged like $10-15 per month and then $20 when you needed an appointment- all done online or by phone, but then they told me they wouldn't accept me unless I was part of a group or referred by an employer, so... yeah... If you think this place is good and want to forward me the company name (in comments or via email) I'd appreciate it.

I think these types of services are good for minor things, but I wouldn't necessarily trust it for complex cases or severe issues.

She is just a dermatologist so no help with sinus issues.

The site says "Dermatologist On Call". Interesting she just switched in the last week it was SkyMed, when we used it.

I tried googling SkyMed doctors but just got stuff about medical transport.

So, I googled "doctor on call online"

    https://callondoc.com

They have a option for sinus infection for $29.99.

    I don't know maybe worth a shot.

I also think it is very cool.

I hope they did not prescribe acutane.   My daughter had that prescription years ago.  It cleared up her skin, but it has side effects that can cause birth defects if you are pregnant  I figure if it could do that to a fetus, it cannot be good for the rest of you.

    No, acutane.
An antibiotic, an astringent, and a topical cream.

In spite of all the various conveniences everyone mentions, I still don't think I would do it. I prefer being in person, in proximity physically, with my doctor -- within a couple of feet of him or her, in the same room at the same time.
    :)

I don't think in office visits are leaving any time soon so you are safe. I think for anything complicated I would want an in person visit.

    :)

The cost incentive of these other types of visits sound nice to me, though, too.

Pretty hard to do a doctor visit online if you need a gynecological exam.

Yes, there are some procedures that will always require the physical presence of a Dr.
