The Chinese ... simply by the fact they have a population ~10x the size of the US.

That's kinda what I thought Walt. There is strength in numbers after all. Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday! :)

The USA still dominates in the automotive area. China dominates the child's toy industry.

I have an idea it's a lot more than that bh. A lot more. You make it sound as if there is no contest but I think it is  potentially huge and the huge accrues to them not to us. Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday! :) This post was edited by RosieG at March 2, 2018 5:23 AM MST

The Chinese are years behind India in the manufacture of MO-PEDS!

The Chinese continue to sell mo-peds and scooters into North America, but provide very little service or replacement parts.  You must have a way to fix your machinery. There are lots of broke down Chinese scooters in this land. Money wasted. This post was edited by B.H.Wilson at March 6, 2018 4:10 AM MST

Really bh? That doesn't make much sense then does it?  I don't know anything about it but you do. Do others know too? If so the market for them must be very small. Why would anyone buy anything that couldn't be repaired because there are no replacement parts? I'm gonna ask. Thank you for your thoughtful and helpfl reply m'dear and Happy Tuesday! :)

It won't do either country any good, but China may be the less damaged thanks to its sheer economic and political size and domination now - and not just in making toys as BH cites.

I think so too. I just wonder WHY doofus don thinks he knows so much about trade and its impact on the economy of a country when he appears to be a blithering idiot. Unless he is purposefully trying to destroy  ours to aid and abet his Russian comrades. Who knows? Thank you for your reply Durdle!  :)

I doubt he's deliberately trying to harm the USDA in favour of Russia. I think he's just naïve and incompetent.

WHOA! You do? How I wish that were true Durdle. Stupiddumb can't be helped. The stupiddumb entity doesn't control it. It just is. I wonder how you will perceive it once Robert Mueller, the Special Counsel, has presented all his indictments, had everyone testify before the Grand Jury who will listen to the evidence presented then charge the people with various "crimes"try then and sentence them? I'm not exactly sure how much power a Grand Jury has but I think it is substantial. Then perhaps you may see things differently. Doofus don has done nothing vis a vis ordering our Intelligence Community to stop the Russian meddling. He has refused to implement Russian Sanctions that Congress voted to implement MONTHS AGO. The State Department was given $120 million to fight the Russian hacking and Tillerson has not spent one cent on it. It has been said Rex Tillerson, Secretary of State, who was a "friend" of Russia and presented with a medal by Putin while he was CEO of  EXXON I think, was chosen by Putin. In other words not only did Putin arrange who would win but also is selected who serves. Teh doofus probably got Putin's OK for every appointment. We shall see how it goes. SIGH. Thank you for your reply Durdle! :).

    Thank you Rosie.

It's not easy for me, and not really my place, as a foreigner to comment on the USA's internal affairs except where they affect other countries including my own. Apart form etiquette I don't know enough about them.

It is certainly a mess though, and whatever the truth of the rather odd allegation that Trump actually hoped to LOSE the presidential election, I wonder how much he thought ahead of how he would operate as President. It does seem from the outside that many of his senior politicians and civil servants have been trying to advise him, but not very successfully.

It will be interesting to see how his North Korean trip goes. Since he is the invited one and it is their first meeting, it risks being a propaganda coup for the Kim regime.  I wonder what Korean - Russian relations are like?

Prior to this all most non-Americans seemed to know about Mr Trump was his propensity for building gold-courses on environmentally and scenically sensitive bits of others' countries.

I disagree with thee about one thing Durdle! It is your place to comment on what is going on around the world including the United States as you perceive it in my opinion. Whether we like it or not we are all Globalists. The populists nationalists are too narrow-minded and partisan to realize it or admit it. You're probably familiar with John Donne's Meditation 17.  "No man is an island entire of itself...one mans' death  diminishes me...never send to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee". Poetic of course but true in my opinion. "The butterfly effect". Of course we can't always know how what we do affects others. But in my view we are all in the same boat and going to the same destination so it makes no sense to me for some to row in the opposite direction or try to throw oars away. What happens in the US may not directly or immediately affect you but affect you it will in some way at some time. As an American all I knew about doofus don was that he was a egomaniac , obscenely wealthy and a blowhard who loved to hog attention. In his earlier days he'd call up news outlets pretending to be someone else and report on what "Donald Trump" was doing just to get his name in the papers. He is the same jacka** now as he was then but sadly he has the power to annihilate us. So please comment on whatever occurs to you. Your comments are as valid to me as any American's. In fact I have found to my surprise that many folks in other countries KNOW more and CARE MORE about what goes on in the United States than some/many US citizens. It should not be that way but it is. I think the North Korea trip is another red herring. The news here is all about STORMY DANIELS the porn star who was his mistress WHILE his new wife had  just given birth to their son. AND the Russian/Trump investigation is getting  closer to having him be on the hot seat to testify. Plus the blowback he's getting from EVERYONE including his own party on the tariffs! Anything to change the subject. He does that all the time and this time he doesn't seem to be getting away with it. STORMY DANIELS, tariffs and the Bob Mueller investigation are front page daily despite the scam/con he is trying pull vis a vis North Korea. Just my opinion of course. I don't KNOW but it's what I think. Thank you for your thoughtful observations and please continue to express them whenever you have something you'd like to share with us. It is all welcome here. Happy Sunday Durdle! :)

You don't win a thing.  We will lose big.

China does not NEED our Steel.  China has plenty.

You know what that means?  People will buy steel from CHINA.

    Hello?

That will help China not us.

I figured that out in two seconds less than it took Trump to get this hairbrained idea in the first place.

    What a FRUITCAKE.

Alienate his own base now.  But first it has to sink into their stupid heads that they are starving to death on his big tax cut, and health care costs are rising, and now your can of pop costs 3 dollars a can.

moron brags that he caused the DOW JONES to rise higher than it ever has before or some eggageration because he is so wonderful, and now the stock market has steadily shown signs of his insanity.   Everytime he comes up with this hairbrained blathering, the stock market sufferes.  AGAIN.

Currently he is a 3-time loser! STORMY DANIELS, the Bob Mueller RUSSIA/TRUMP collusion/the stupid dumbhead tariffs! His own party is hammering the he** outta him for the latter. What does he do when he's cornered? Changes the subject. So that's all the North Korea thingy is in my opinion. The White House is already walking it back. The dumba** jacka** is cornered so he decided to get folks to focus on something else. It ain't working. His lawyers gave a deal to Mueller. End the investigations and doofus don will talk to him. With certain limitations of course. Such a deal. Of course Mueller isn't nearly done so he is not going to take that deal. Desperation reigns supreme.  The rats are leaving by the droves. New rats are hard to find so when that ship of state finally sinks maybe the only one left will be doofus don. Thank you for your reply Sharon! The noose gets ever closer to his fat neck. He is old. He is slow.  He cannot outrun it! He doesn't believe in exercise. It takes too much energy! :) This post was edited by RosieG at March 11, 2018 1:27 AM MST
