Dr. Stephen Hawking says "nothing was around before the Big Big Bang". His argument is below. Do you agree or dis?

In an interview with Neil deGrasse Tyson, Dr. Stephen Hawking provided the following argument. .

"One can regard imaginary and real time as beginning at the South Pole which is a smooth point of space-time where normal laws of physics hold. There is nothing south of the South Pole so there was nothing around before the  Big Bang"

So. There it is. Does it make sense to you?

    I think mankind will destroy itself before we ever find out Rosie.....

    What was there before this big explosion ,where does the universe end and what's on the other side....how can it forever keep on expanding ,expanding to where  ? 

    Where did the components come from to create the Big Bang if nothing existed before that date....

    You will never ever know ....:(

    I read his argument and frankly m'dear it makes no sense to me. If nothing exists south of the South Pole what does that have to do with the big bang or big big bang? It's like saying if you like to go barefoot in the house you will also enjoy a trip to the eye doctor to get your eyes dilated! I mean c'mon! Thank you for your reply D! :)

    Assuming no particle (graviton) is required to enable gravity to exist then before the big bang would be a state of zero dimension as the previous universe had been 'crunched down' to a single black hole. 
    Zero dimension is not 'nothing'  but just the force of gravity existing then 'big bang'  into a new universe. 
    Big bounce theory.
