Trump is not advocating isolationism. "America first" just means that the U.S. will not act against the national interest. It will seek mutually beneficial relationships with other nations.
Individuals who have sense also seek reciprocal, mutually beneficial relationships. Putting others first, in a one sided way, doesn't make real friends. It causes you to be taken advantage of, exploited, and mocked behind your back by people who pretend to be your friend. It's better to be alone than in the company of scum. Though if you're a decent person and a good judge of character there is no reason you ever would be alone.

How can you even compare honoring your country and its people and institutions with individual human selfishness? You don't put your country first then you don't respect it and it ceases to exist! As individuals we would not survive if we did not have selfish instincts. A country does not have such human instincts so we need to carefully cultivate it. It begins with God, then comes to the individual who is a part of a family, then a larger community and then a country. Those are what are most important to our well-being. After we take care of those THEN we start being concerned with people on the other side of the world.
