Cartoonist Thomas Nast popularized the Donkey and the Elephant to symbolize the Democratic and Republican parties. Why not change them?

Elephants supposedly has a very long memory..is very fat and very slow and I'm not sure but probably not too smart. Not a good image.

Donkeys are known to be stubborn and when you call someone a Jacka** is isn't a compliment.

Why allow a cartoonist from way back when to still dictate a symbol of anything so many decades later?

In the donkeys defence - donkeys are also known to be a very hard working  animal that  doesn't  need much. Any way maybe they should  do away with the elephant and donkey and go with a sticker system like they have in kindergarden. A party does something that truly helps Ameracia  then they get a sunshine sticker. cheers!
