  • One day, at the top of the Susterne Pass in Switzerland, the sun breaking through the clouds in late afternoon and send rays and shafts of light across the snowcapped peaks and bouncing off the still glass of the lake. It was as if God's fingers were touching the Earth. I felt ecstasy, pure and unbounded.

    Lyrics - many - Leonard Cohen, John Lenin, Nana Mouscouri, Lauri Anderson

    stories - many - most recently, Palace Walk by Naguib Mafouz, Gabrielle Garcia Marquez

    poems - anything by Tagore, Rumi, Hafiz, Kayyam, Gibran - but many others too - Frost, Graves, Rosetti, many

    deeds - After Charlie Ebdo - the man who hauled a grand piano across gobble stones to the site and played "Give Peace a Chance. I cried. random acts of kindness and beauty are a profound answer to terrorism.

    Ugly - depends what kind of ugliness - Cirano de Bergerac was beautiful.

    The greatest beauty is always in the heart - whether the response is to dandelions on a breeze or a pup squirming with joy to say hello - it"s always in the heart

    Thank you for your thoughtful reply hartfire and Happy Sunday. Cyrano's words were lyrical . He could never be ugly. His nose was not the most symmetical thing but once he began to speak you forgot all about it. Didn't you?
