Do you sign petitions? How do you know for sure how your signature will be used? For what, when, why and where?

I have signed petitions.  Sometimes there will be local issues going on in our town and someone may come around with one to sign.

I read that there have been cases where the signatures were lifted somehow and transferred elsewhere. Which means it appears that you signed something you didn't. Maybe something you never would. So we just never sign any. Thank you for your reply PeaPod and Happy Thursday! :)

After reading some of the responses here, now I really wonder what the heck I was signing.  A part of me still wants to believe people are honest with good intentions.  I still get burnt on that one.  Maybe one of these days I'll grow up.  LOL

I don't usually sign petitions because I find that if you have to put in your address, phone or email, all it does it open you up to all kinds of junk mail and spam.

In some past cases the signatures were transferred in some way to something else. So you can't really trust anyone you don't know. Sad to say. In the long ago days when life seemed less complicated we did sign them.  It's scary to think how and where those signatures might have been used. So we just stopped. Thank you for your reply L and Happy Thursday! :)

I have become very wary of giving out personal information these past few years.  I don't trust anyone.  :)  Happy Thursday. :)

Me too neither L. Have you ever Googled your name? Shocking what you will find. Privacy is a myth. Maybe like unicorns it never existed. Thank you for your reply! :)

I think I might have Googled my name a while back, but I don't remember.  Happy Friday, Rosie. :)

You're welcome L. We had our neighbor friend join us and after we had eaten there was a knock at the door and our other sweet neighbors brought us 3 HUGE pieces of a cake their granddaughter had baked. I think she is a pastry chef. I'm not exaggerating here. They were the BIGGEST pieces of cake I've ever seen. Each "piece" weighed maybe a pound? It was 4-layer chocolate cake with walnuts and the filling was some kind of custardy thingy and the frosting was cream cheese. I'm pre-diabetic so I try to stay away from sweets but I ate about HALF  of my "piece" a couple of hours later and so did Jim eat half of his. And what's left is still HUMONGOUS! So we had a fine day. Foodie that I am you know I always lead with that. Hope your day was swell too my friend! :) This post was edited by RosieG at April 2, 2018 8:23 AM MDT

I'm glad you had a good day.  Mine was good, too although it would have been better if I'd been able to taste that cake - sounds fantastic. :)

It was 60 degrees here in NYC yesterday - today I woke up to about 3" of snow!  Fortunately, I don't have to go to work until tomorrow by which time, they will have cleared most of it away.  I've had enough of this winter!

    Happy Monday!

Makes me wonder how we get close to 10 magazines a week coming here.  Our names are not on them and there is no bill.  But someone had a field day with our address.

As long as you don't get a bill, you're OK.  We had a neighbor who got pissed at us for complaining that she was too noisy and she got back at us by ordering 21 magazine subscriptions for each of us.  One of the gals who lived next door to her was always getting things from the Franklin Mint which she had to return.

I wouldn't be shocked if my bad little sister did something like this to me.  She really is a spiteful one and the only known enemy I have at the moment.  I get along great with my neighbors.

Yeh, so far, no bill.  I think my husband said he can contact the postmaster general to get this stuff stopped.  It's annoying at best.  I just hate to see such a waste of trees since I don't read magazines anymore.

I know what you mean.  It was a real nuisance contacting all the publishers to get the subscriptions stopped.

I do not sign petitions.  Call me paranoid, but I don't trust them.  The last store I worked for had to ban all petitioners as some of them weren't legit.

Ditto. We used to be naive in the long ago and sign them but then I read how some signatures were being "transferred" to other things. I don't know if ours ever were but we stopped cold turkey and now when we are approached (they are always outside grocery stores) we simply say we don't sign petitions. You don't know who those people are, what their intentions are, or how sneaky they might be. Why chance it? Thank you for your reply Shuhak and Happy Thursday!  :)
