After a prez leaves office could he be indicted for the illegal use of pardons if he goes that route and tries it?

Say he PARDONS Manafort. Too late to pardon Flynn. He already spilled his guts. But he would give the pardons to save his own a** due to what those folks have on him and I don't think that is legal. He can only pardon the actions of others for what they did and to cover up what he did. Isn't he stuck bigly then?

There is no such thing as illegal use of pardons. The president has the right to pardon people.

You obviously don't even know what a pardon means. It's a get out of jail free card. It doesn't matter whether the person is guilty or not. They just get let off. It's not a decision that has be justified. They just do it.

Bill Clinton pardoned far left weather underground terrorists (and a whole list of his criminal underworld friends) on his last day in office. Does the left consider this an illegal use of pardons I wonder?

  • The left is too enamored with the Clinton Crime family to admit any wrongdoing on their part. They regard the use of pardons as irresponsible at the very least and an abomination at the worst. But then, it all depends on who wields the power.

You know not whatof you speak. I am a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT and I am not now nor have I ever been enamored of the Clintons. So kindly be specific when you allege such a thing. You don't know everyone on the left so you ought not presume you KNOW whom we love ,whom we detest, whom we abhor, whom we adore, whom we tolerate or whom we hate.  You were testy about "extreme right-wing" and said you knew nothing about that. Well you know nothing about the "left" whom you describe so cavalierly.

It is irrelevant whether you're a Clinton fan. You would rather Hillary were president than Trump. Therefore you are on the side of the Clintons.

The point is that you appear to be selectively applying principles. You appear to claim that something is illegal if our side does it and make no comment if your side does it.

Do you think Bill Clinton illegally used his pardoning powers? Yes or no? If the answer is yes, well at least you're being consistent. If the answer is no, then I rest my case. This post was edited by Zeitgeist at April 2, 2018 9:16 PM MDT

Gerald Ford set the bar at a VERY low level when he pardoned an obviously guilty Nixon. Unless a Constitutional amendment is passed to limit Presidential pardons, the sky is the limit. I actually don't belive there's such thing as an "illegal" pardon, so when Trump is impeached, he won't do any time. Pence will pardon him.
