Can illegal immigrants BUY GUNS? Do you have to show proof of citizenship anywhere you buy a gun including gun shows or person-to-person?

But do you have to show proof of citizenship at gun shows or gun stores or if people sell guns to one another? How do you prevent it if folks don't bother checking because they don't give a rat's a** to whom they sell guns as long as they can get them sold?  Thank you for telling me what the law is. Because by law an illegal cannot even possess a firearm....then I am sure it asks if you are a citizen or a legal noncitizen resident. All dealers check everything that is legally required. If they do not then they loose their license. 

A normal seller (not a dealer) is liable if they knowingly sell to a person whom they know not to be legal to own a gun. 

These laws apply everywhere including gun shows. 

Is there any kind of oversight? SECRET checkers show up announced to test it out? Same thing with gun dealers. There is no way to control/insure individual sales to other individuals except "t he honor system" which we all know is antiquated, outdated...even if it allegedly did exist once upon a time? Yes, firearms dealers are heavily regulated and will lose their license and possible jail time if found to be selling to people not allowed to purchase a gun. This post was edited by my2cents at April 3, 2018 6:04 AM MDT
