I'm not in the stock market. Why should I care if it goes upsy daisy or down?

I.ve been asking that question for a long time, although I did own some shares of stock in a company. It lost half of its value in 2008. I have since sold it. It won't affect you or me as we are retired. It could indirectly affect other non-shareholders through loss of jobs and fewer wage increases.

I don't know if I ever told you this Ele but I had ONE venture in the stock market years ago. A friend told me about a SURE THING. It was in the third leg of its clinical trials and looking supergood. A med for rheumatoid arthritis without side effects. She put all her available money in it. She worked for a company that found and allocated financing for medical research projects. I bought as many shares as I could and then something happened and the shares started going down. I never found out exactly what. I got out when I'd lost half the investment and it kept going down and disappeared. I think I lost $4000! That was i . Never again! Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday m'dear! :) This post was edited by RosieG at April 5, 2018 2:20 AM MDT

You may not personally be, but quite likely your pension funds and suchlike may well be.

I have a small guaranteed annuity and so does Jim. Of course we also have social security Malizz. I don't have the personality for it nor the money. I got burned once years ago and I never tried it again. Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday! :) This post was edited by RosieG at April 7, 2018 4:32 AM MDT

As long as a provider keeps their assets and liabilities properly matched, it is unlikely to go belly up in a financial crisis. You may also have policyholder protection funds to mitigate any risk.

As it's a small annuity, it shouldn't be a major concern for you.

We're both with New York Life and we have a GUARANTEED minimum yearly return. Of course if the stock market completely crashes I'm not sure what would happen. I expect another depression? I'm gonna ask. Thank you for your reply Malizz and Happy Saturday! :)
