Ever use a restroom in a restaurant where you purchased nothing? Were you prevented from doing so? Are you white?

It seems two African American guys were meeting their WHITE friend at a Starbucks in Philly and wanted to use the restroom. They were told they couldn't since they didn't buy anything. They sat at a table to wait for their friend and cops were called because they wouldn't leave. The WHITE friend whom they were going to meet showed up and asked what the he** was going on?  Well WHAT THE HE** WAS GOING ON? What do YOU think that was all about? Sheesh. SIGH.  Tiny minds in tiny racists are everywhere aren't they? They breed like roaches or maggots. :(

I have done so in fast food joints or gas stations. I have never been denied and I am sort of pinkish.

Again....they were loitering. Taking up seats for paying customers.  They were asked to either purchase or leave....they refused. I don't know how long they were there but they did not simply just go in to use the restroom.
I have never been refused to use the restroom. But I  was always taught that if you use a businesses restroom you should buy something even if just a pack of gum. (My Dad was a manager of a business for years before starting his own)

I have seen restaurants with signs up that say restroom for customers only.

So did you always buy something? What color are YOU? Have you never gone somewhere to meet someone and sat at a table having ordered nothing until your friend shows up? I have. I was never escorted out or told I was loitering. We have no idea what the three of them would have done. Perhaps they intended to dine there. Being black is not something you can hide m2c. Blacks are always targeted. Unarmed young black men are the ones who are murdered by cops. Of course you will always be able to argue away anything. I know that. I shouldn't waste my time or yours trying to get you to admit the truth. Your truth is of a different nature than mine. Thank you for your defense of the wrongdoing. I'm sure it is appreciated. :)

Yes, I always buy something. I am white.  Yes, I have met people at a restaurant before....which is why I was looking for the amount of time these men were there.
No, not all unarmed people shot by police are black. They are poor and for some reason have decided not to listen to the police. (With few exceptions) If you do not listen to the police,  you put them on edge and cauae them to worry about why and what you maybe trying to do.
I am not trying to argue away anything. Just looking for the facts, police I know are good people and not racists.

In UK this kind of arrangement is not uncommon, as it is less expensive for councils than maintaining a public toilet network. Colour of skin has no relevance and discriminating on that account would be illegal. A Blanket ban on non-customers would be ok.  This post was edited by Malizz at April 16, 2018 8:51 AM MDT

I think it is a very kind thing to allow and a public service. Of course you don't want folks going in there to do anything harmful or illegal. If the two guys were white I seriously doubt they would have been accused of loitering and escorted out. Color matters apparently. SIGH. Thank you for your reply Malizz and Happy Monday. I know one thing for sure. If I were denied access I would never ever buy anything from them and I would pass the word to friends so they would patronize it either. Word-of-mouth can help or hurt a business. I'm jjust sayin'! :)

Usually they'd have a sign saying only paying customers could use the restroom. I would either buy something or just go somewhere else if I see that sign. I know a Subway nearby where only the staff could unlock the restroom, but you have to buy something first if you wanna use it.
