Demanded by whom? Who has the authority to demand such a thing? Backed by what? You can't seem to comprehend that nations are sovereign. They're not subject anything else. There is nothing above the nation state.

Possessing nuclear weapons is not about who rightfully should possess them. When you have nuclear weapons, nobody can mess with you. It's about power. There is no "should" in international politics. There is only the will of whatever forces are dominant.

Your question is typical of the leftist tendency to falsely see equivalency in everything. You see hypocrisy in the U.S. asserting that sh*thole counties should be denied nukes while the U.S. retains them. Hypocrisy is a country violating ITS OWN principles, not the principles of crack pot leftist ideology.

The U.S. seeks to maintain a dominant position in the world because it is in the nature of power to maintain and expand itself. If you would see your country subjugated, you are a traitor. This post was edited by Zeitgeist at April 18, 2018 8:45 PM MDT

One doesn't walk up to a strongman and 'demand' anything, lest they want to be beat to a pulp.  The US is the strongman (currently).  As such it can do whatever it pleases - right or wrong.  Only when someone stronger comes along will the US be "forced" to do anything.  (and that time WILL come!)

Ever hear of the song "HIGH HOPES"? It's all about an ant upending a rubber tree plant. Right now however the US is being yanked around most embarrassingly by Putin and Russia. It is being controlled and shaped by  Sean Hannity, Fox News and a bunch of toady sycophantics thugs. The world is not impressed with the alleged strongman. It is terrified because of the loony tune in charge and his abject fear of  being found out and Putin has outsmarted/outwitted/outplayed/outperformed him at every juncture. We are helpless to stop PUtin because the goofydoofylucy is terrified of him. So much for "strongman". So I disagree with thee m'dear. We used to be a contender. That's when we recognized that Russia was the enemy and never let down our guard or get cozy with them. Today Russia has its way with us. Nikki Haley talked on Sunday about sanctions being placed on Russia by Monday and that Steve Mnuchin would list them because that was part of the talking points reviewed Saturday night and AGREED upon.  She is not a rogue player. The White House chief jacka** backed down and left her hanging and then one of his toadies said that she was confused. The gal has guts. She said "with all due respect, I don't get confused". The US is a pathetic shadow of its former self and it is diminished daily by the outrageous actions of the john known as don. That was what used to be and no longer is. We are a laughingstock. Strongman? I don't see it that way at all Shuhak. The kinder folks might pity us. The others might think we are getting just what we deserve. I doubt that anyone anywhere ENVIES us any longer. Whatever fear they have is of the insane puppet who tweets and harms and damages what he touches. Just my opinion of course. Thank you for your reply m'ddear! :)

My answer was merely a maxim.  Let me rephrase it ....

Currently the US is still a world power (or strongman).  But a nation is only as strong as its leaders (the ones enacting policy).  In the past, the US was a nation that the world looked up to (more or less).  A nation that stood for something.  It used to take a lot to rile this strongman, but when it was riled, he fought back - and hard.  Not with random potshots, but with forceful and decisive blows.  And he was (usually) victorious.  But now the strongman has become proud of himself.  He's gone from strongman to bully.  Of course, many nations would like to be a strongman in the world.  Whoever takes down the current strongman will become the new strongman (that's how it's always been).  However, they know that bombs and other such conventional weapons will have little effect on this strongman.  So they devise other ways.  They get his own "body" to fight against itself (national polarization?). Then they strike him where he's the weakest - his "head".  They band together taking potshots at him from all directions (Korea, Russia, China, Iran); riddling him with false propaganda and taunting him with rumors of false peace or possession of greater weapons.  The foolish strongman falls for these tricks and lashes out.  His "head" is so pompous that he blames everyone but himself for what's happening.  And without having fired a shot (of conventional weaponry), the strongman comes crashing to the ground.
