I don't know anyone like that....I do know some who are so blinded they cannot see the truth.

I am going to be charitable here, simply because it's sunny out, and say, that it's probably just that the poor mites really are too dim to know the truth. They are often simple souls who aren't very bright and who believe all the lies they are told. They swallow utter hogwash, hook, line and sinker and then, believing every word, they pass it on, thinking they are clever... Bless them - you have to feel sorry for them in a way. It must be awful to be so misguided and so far off the truth.

That is an extremely KIND way to look at the disaster they cause. I am not so charitable although I do admit they simply are wired that way and are not in control so how can you really blame them? SIGH. You don't blame a leopard for its spots or snake for its slither or a infant who cries all the time.  I suppose I could blame the universe. That's as good a scapegoat as any! Thank you for your reply Addb! :)

A lot of people don't truly have beliefs. They simply follow their interests and their beliefs shift as soon as their interests change. Their beliefs are just a system of self justification that protects their own ego.

For example, the left could just be honest and say "I'm too lazy to work hard and I'm too greedy to just live a simple life, so you're going to work for me. You're my b*tch, ok?". That wouldn't sell and is too demeaning to admit, even to themselves. So the leftist invents a system of beliefs to justify themselves. They start at their chosen conclusion (i.e. I'm virtuous, not a dirty, fallen little creature) and work backwards. Naturally everything that contradicts their conclusion must be false and everything that supports their conclusion must be true. They'll believe in the justice of redistributing wealth passionately, until the day they win the lottery. Then their beliefs would immediately shift again to manufacture a reason that justifies retaining their wealth.

And the right do exactly the same thing. Like where you say, the left could just be honest and say, I'm too lazy to work hard, and I am too greedy to life a simple life". Not only is that as far off what I understand the left to be, (they are into sharing, helping others and everyone more equal) but you could equally, and just as accurately, say, the right could just be honest and say, I'm too selfish, self-centred and bigoted to contribute anything useful to this world, I'd much rather be lazy and exploit those well off in order to make my money. I don't want to work - let the downtrodden, the minorities, those who struggle hardest work for me.  And in their racist and discriminatory language they contradict all the guff they spout, "I'm not racist, I am just superior because I am white.." Naturally everthing that contradicts their self-appointed superiority they don't like and rather than offer reasoned argument they start throwing tantrums and insults.  Oh and fire back exactly the same words as they spew out, they really go ape. PS ya know I luv ya really :P This post was edited by Adaydreambeliever at April 20, 2018 3:35 AM MDT

Of course, I'm not denying that some people on all sides of the political spectrum have fluid beliefs like this. The next identity that suits them could be anything. Many a right winger has fallen on hard times, abandoned all principles of justice, and turned red. (I'd never betray my principles, and if I did, I'd put a gun in my mouth out of pure shame.)

I'm also not denying that some leftists are truly sincere, genuinely believe their philosophy benefits society, and wouldn't change if they became wealthy. (They're just hopelessly delusional of course).

There are more true believers on the right. This post was edited by Zeitgeist at April 19, 2018 2:16 PM MDT
