You were good friends with someone who has left the company. Do you fill him in on everything that is going on even though it's none of his business and is classified? Why?
I adored my previous work colleague... she was one of these people who lighten and brighten the room just by being there and I very much liked a previous colleague.. I am in touch with the former and sometimes grumble about my lot in work but nothing where i work is classified really apart from info about students.
Too bad the one you adored isn't there any longer. While we are at work we focus on a job to be done. It's lovely to have an atmosphere/environment of cooperation and support with your co-workers. Cordiality can never be over-rated. Thank you for your thoughtful reply Addb! :)
