Allegedly Paul Ryan asked the House Chaplain to resign. Allegedly the Chaplain prayed for EVERYONE and that was offensive to some. Why?

He was too political. He is reported to have prayed, “As legislation on taxes continues to be debated this week and next, may all members be mindful that the institutions and structures of our great nation guarantee the opportunities that have allowed some to achieve great success, while others continue to struggle,” and “May their efforts these days guarantee that there are not winners and losers under new tax laws, but benefits balanced and shared by all Americans.”

Seeing the government as agency that should act to prevent inequality, is disgusting leftist rhetoric. Shameful. Giving him the opportunity to resign was very merciful. I would have fired him.

He shouldn't be commenting on specific government policies at all. Chaplains have a duty to preach biblical teachings. Christianity is a religion of charity under individualism and free will, not state mandated socialism. The man is a disgrace. This post was edited by Zeitgeist at April 29, 2018 4:46 AM MDT

If the chaplain had this in mind, he was definitely preaching from the bible

Deuteronomy 15:7-11 New International Version (NIV)

7 If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them. 8 Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need. 9 Be careful not to harbor this wicked thought: “The seventh year, the year for canceling debts, is near,” so that you do not show ill will toward the needy among your fellow Israelites and give them nothing. They may then appeal to the Lord against you, and you will be found guilty of sin. 10 Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. 11 There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.

That is an appeal to charity on a individual level, not to socialism. Redistribution of wealth by force is not the proper function of the state.

Wonder what would happen if any clergyperson actually said "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the kingdom of heaven"? Or "it is easier for a camel to go through a needle than for a rich many to get to heaven". I may not have quoted them verbatim but you get the drift.. It's OK to pray for the rich and powerful but not for the poor. It seems to me that would be in direct violation of what God has told us. Very odd. Thank you for your reply tom and Happy Sunday! :)

I read that he was let go because Ryan said he wasn't  doing his job. But yet the White House doctor who is accused of drinking  on the job  and giving out pills like they were candy wasn't asked to leave. Cheers and happy weekend!

Well m'dear many illogical weird peculiar and wacky crackpot things have taken place in D.C. since the john of don took over. They cannot be explained in normal ways. To understand them you have to get stoned, drunk out of your mind and become delusional. Then and only then can one make sense of it. A diseased place for sure filled to the brim with diseased souls, minds, spirits. Diseased in every way imaginable. Thank you for your reply Nanoose and Happy Sunday! :)
