Entitlement programs are government programs that we are entitled to IF meet the requirements of the program... economic guide lines or an required amount of contributions for benefits.

  • People conflate legal entitlement and moral entitlement. A person's legal entitlement is whatever the government decides it is. Moral entitlement is controversial.

To the left, social security is social justice. We owe them. To the left, everyone is in permanent inextinguishable debt to society.

To the right, social security is a compassionate gift from society to someone who needs help. Society doesn't owe them anything. It is nice of society to do this. It's a generous gift that that should be received with gratitude.

Because only the special people that live in fantasyland belief that if their name or position is such, they deserve everything given to them on a silver platter. The rest of us work. I used to think it was just a Socialist thing but I am proved wrong in the presence of HRC. She has proved me wrong. She believes that it's not her actions that matter, it's a God given right for her to be Prez.

I am a ring wing person. I do not consider SS a gift. It is taken out of my check directly with or with out my agreement. I consider it forced insurance.

  • I'm on the right though I recognise that the economy has degenerated to a point where welfare is necessary. If welfare were stopped, mass suffering would be unleashed. People would would riot and burn the cities to the ground. Society has no choice but to have welfare programs for the foreseeable future.

Yeah you're right it's not truly a gift because it's not voluntary. What I meant was that it's not the settling of a debt. I don't see myself as owing society anything.

The left see everything as repayment of debt. Even when someone voluntarily gives to charity, the left don't really see that as a gift. Have you noticed how the left talk about "giving back" not "giving"? (i.e. implying that we have taken from society and should repay our debt.)

The leftists don't believe in private property. Nobody can truly give anything because nobody truly owns anything. If you have billion bucks, you owe society a billion bucks.
