    I use dictionaries as a guide but I also think for myself.

    Language is subjective and constantly evolving. Dictionaries print the general consensus on what words mean. They give short definitions without much subtlety.

    Dictionaries do not contain the answers to controversial issues. They tell us what the consensus IS (in the possibly bias opinion of the author), not what the consensus SHOULD BE. This post was edited by Zeitgeist at May 7, 2018 4:22 AM MDT
