Ya they had a real good wooden roller coaster there. We lived in Windsor Ontario back then so it wasn't a very long drive. There was a fairy good amusement park in Michigan too called Bobalo Island but they closed it down years ago. Cheers and happy weekend!
I think we have a Six Flags in California too but I'm not sure. I'll Google it m2c. Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday to thee! :) Oh my gosh. I just remembered something. When I was a little kid I think we went to a Zoo in St. Louis. My dad's folks lived in Granite City, Illinois and I remember visiting them and visiting a zoo. Whoa. Did you visit the St. Louis zoo too?
They are for sure magnificent and beautemous and memorable! On our way up to Oregon to visit our son almost 20 years ago (he and his wife live in Arizona now) we went through some of it and it is beyond gorgeous. Aren't the Redwoods among the oldest living things in California? Thank you for your reply Shuhak and Happy Friday! :)
They're spectacular. Of course as the youngest, I had to sit in the middle of the back seat of the car between my 2 siblings. Considering the car was a 4-door Datsun 510, it wa a wonder we all fit in there - especially with all our food stored by our feet (sleeping bags on the roof, camping gear and large metal ice chest in the trunk). I believe they are the oldest.
On our way back, we'd stop on the coast just west of Honeydew. There was a stretch of beach there where you could find amazing shells. Some were long and looked like a screw. Unfortunately, they blocked that area off from all public access.
I think there is a Shell Beach or there was long ago. I remember when I was about 10 we drove up to Fresno to visit relatives and on our way up my dad took us via the "17 miles drive". I think it was near Pebble Beach golf course. It was very beautiful. Everything was an adventure then. Now I dunno. I guess we become blase eventually. Thank you for your informative reply! Would you like to be a kid again just for a day Shuhak? I'm gonna ask!
Would I like to be a kid again... even for one day? I don't know. If I didn't have to know what I know now it might be ok ( we become blase for a reason). I'd definitely like to feel the wonderment and innocence I had back then. However it wasn't all "peaches and cream" then either.
Before I would select a day I'd check with my younger sister. My initial reaction to that would be a summer day when we put on our bathing suits and sprayed each other with the hose. We didn't have a pool. Then we'd put towels down on the driveway and dry off. I have no idea why I'd choose that but those were the halcyon days of my youth and my sister was an integral part of it. Just for day. Daddy and Mom were alive and well and life was innocently uncomplicated. Daddy did the yard work and mom took care of the inside and we ate well because she was a great cook. Yep. I'd choose that day if it were only my decision. I'm gonna email my sis and ask her what she would choose! Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)
We rarely went anywhere. We had our fun the old fashion way...we played. What could be more fun than going fishing with my sister, or playing ball in the church-yard, or walking to the zoo. Everything was fun, even on rainy days we would play cards and board games.
Funnee hunnee but we have that in common too. I only remember two vacations. One time my mom, sis and I went by train to Michigan and spent a week with my grandparents at their summer cottage. Daddy stayed home and worked. The other time was when we all went up to Fresno to visit cousins. We went camping too and it was way cool fun. Other than that we might go on a Sunday to Knott's Berry Farm. .Disneyland didn't exist when I was a kid. And of course there was always the beach. Laguna Beach was our favorite and at least once a month during the summer we'd spend the day there with my parents' friends and families. Breakfast, lunch and dinner! Way cool fun! Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday! :)
We also rented a cottage a couple of times in the Irish Hills in MI. It was no more fun than anywhere else, just different. It was the last time my whole family did something together.
I guess we all make our own fun Ele. We take it with us and it's how we look at things that can make fun or no big deal. Would you like to be a kid again for just a day? I would. I'm gonna ask. Thank you for your reply! :)
