How do mother porcupines survive giving birth?

    The baby's are nice and soft.  The quills don't harden yet.

    (I made that up but I bet it is true)

    Below is what I thought would be clever but it is hard to discern.  It is Dante's Inferno and this is a porcupine attacking.  (when was that EVER in The Inferno anyways?)

    You are right. The quills harden after birth.  I knew that but I thought it would be an interesting question anyway.

    If they are born head first, no problem, as the quills point backwards. Just a guess.
