If I'd known socialism was this lucrative, I might have signed up years ago. :-)
Bernie Sanders Buys a Summer Home in North Hero
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is the proud new owner of a summer home in the Champlain Islands, Seven Days has confirmed.
The Burlington resident last week plopped down nearly $600,000 on a lakefront camp in North Hero.
Sanders’ new crib has four bedrooms and 500 feet of Lake Champlain beachfront on the east side of the island — facing Vermont, not New York. The Bern will keep his home in Burlington and use the new camp seasonally.
Yep. Sanders was the real deal alright. The real "do as I say, not as I do" kind of deal. :-)
See, this is what people don't understand about socialism. It's neofeudalism in drag. Under socialism there are two classes of people; the political elite (our would-be owners)...and we, the peons, who live on their plantation.
His money wasn't made in a socialist economy. His home is quite modest and $600K is not a fortune for a five-bedroom house with 500 ft. of lake front on Lake Champlain. People pay that much for small condos in my area.
What else ya got? This is not scandalous.
First of all. I hear you sort of? But not really.
Only a being with the personal power of a Gandhi lives his spoken word as if he were a saint. This is being too nit-picky to judge his ability to be President and keep his word.
I am sure Mr. Sanders has good reasons to back his actions. I just don't care to vote or not vote based upon his personal spending policies. It is as insipid to me to worry about this as it is to see how much Hillary's designer jacket costs or how much Michelle Obama spends on herself to look good.
WHO CARES. The money is theirs, not mine and they did not steal it from anyone and they are not being hypocrites either. UNLESS they are Gandhi. I should say, UNLESS you EXPECT them to BE Gandhi.
That is why you are partially correct.
It would be nice to have any leader that talks the talk and walks the walk 100 percent. You can put anyone under a microscope and find some hypocracy. (even Gandhi)
The major issue is for each of us to examine before we judge; how much we actually know. What we are judging. What matters and what does not matter. Gandhi changed the world by putting the action of peaceful non-violence into every mind in India and Brittan. I am sure he could probably be put under a microscope and be called a phony by ignorant haters who don't know the circumstances. Same here. (not you)
Bernie Sanders knows how to implement his policies because he has experience. He has kept his word. Well, mostly, his entire career; hence, we see where his passions are and where his heart lies. He is passionate and it is heart-felt.
Bernie. Is Good. We know where his heart lies.
TRUMP. Bad because his entire campaign stems from a HEART FULL OF LIES
The discernment comes from your perceptions, not the summer home Bernie loves. Big deal, he ain't perfect. At least he isn't calling the Mexians rapists and denigrating women by referring to blood running down their legs.
That is the thing we need to consider. Not how much TRUMP makes, not how much Bernie SPENDS.

Well, let's do some math.
The average per-capita income in the United States is about $50k. If that money really was "spread around", the typical family of four would have an average annual income of $200k. It is not unreasonable for such a family to save 6% of its income ($12,000) per year for 10 years to come up with the $120k down payment on a $600k property.
Having paid the $120k down and taken out a 30-year mortage, the monthly payments on such a purchase would be...about $2,500/month, or about 15% of the family's monthy income, which is quite reasonable for housing.
Yes, "socialism" would probably work out reasonably well for most Americans (if it could be implemented in the real world).
Socialism won't work in the long run. Someone always has to work to make up for when other people are not working in a socialist society so there is no incentive for anyone to really do anything at all. We can't all be rich however we can only try to do more to be self sustainable.
There's no reason I should work 8 to 10 hours just for someone else to have my money (more than they already do) who I don't even know somewhere in the U.S. government.
I never said it was scandalous. I would suggest, though, that owning THREE homes might be excessive for a putative champion of the little guy.

BTW, I could never have voted for him, but I liked Sanders WAY more than either of the two current contenders.
That seems to be a somewhat common (if not popular) perception. 
...Except that this purchase will make Sanders' third house. Even your math doesn't cover that kind of excess...especially for a champion of the little guy. :-)
Now, is there anything wrong with it? Not really, but the 'optics' are positively atrocious.
