Some folks are very impressionable. Tell them something often enough and they will believe it. Keep hammering away every day. Brainwashing?

Of course the brain must be open to be washed. It must be willing to subject itself to being manipulated/programmed/hacked. Whatever message is being repeated robotically must be something the brain can accept . Good brainwashers are worth their weight in gold. The fatter the washer is the better of course because they weigh more so of course they will cost more and earn more and stash away more than skinny minis.

Brainwashing is a term often used derogatorily to describe teachings that are disagreeable to one’s own view.

I find it amusing (if not ironic) that your preface here is a direct description of how most people are introduced to religion.

Do the brainwashed KNOW they are? Doubtful. So they are not the best judges of their circumstances are they? Only observers can see what is going on since it is from a distance that perspective is formed. Now to address your premise. OF COURSE! DUH! The views of the brainwashed are ANATHEMA to me.  I believe all bogus bonespur prez supporters have been brainwashed and quite thoroughly. I don't think I am brainwashed for thinking that. WHY WOULD I? If you do so what? As for religion I believe in a Supreme Being. You apparently do not. So what? From my earliest memory I was taught GOD IS LOVE. I even taught Sunday School to kindergartners when I was 12. I no longer attend any church. I no longer require a middleman to guide me. I still believe in a Supreme  Being. I am 80. You are telling me that from my earliest days I was brainwashed? So what? If true. And SO WHAT if not? You have a  right to your observations as I do mine. Notice that your observations will always put you in a good light as mine will do likewise for me. We are imperfect human beings. Perfection is not an option. SIGH. Thank you for your reply DonB and Happy Saturday to thee.

Now see, this supports my point.
Take someone with the opposite position, like Uncle Bob for example, who might say with the same conviction that your view (the “leftist” position) or mine (atheist) is brainwashed, deluded or worse.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

Do the brainwashed know they are? No. How could they? How hard is it to admit that what one has long believed is not the case at all. Easier to just get along than challenge the zeitgeist.

Perhaps you are far too intelligent for me. I fail to see how "this supports my point" as you allege. Sorry. You are too profound for me. I don't get you. Thank you for your reply and Happy Sunday to thee DonB! :) This post was edited by RosieG at May 27, 2018 4:14 AM MDT

I am not sure that brains need to be open to being washed... I have observed this phenomenon for a good few decades now, I have tried to study and understand it... and the closest thing I have come up with is that these people are just plain gullible. I think they are probably so inclined because they have already been brainwashed through years of being fed doctrine. This applies, it seems to religion and to politics...

These people happily ignore facts and evidence that disproves their beliefs... and they seem to go on believing things no matter what. 10 out of 10 for loyalty but minus 10 out of 10 for believing twaddle, usually hateful twaddle, and for not even trying to question or learn.

I think it's normal for folks to think others share their views of word meanings Addb. I mean when I say the bogus bonespur prez is a LIAR (so far he has told in excess of 3000 LIES) since becoming prez or including during his campaign that is not a good thing in my world. A lie to me means the opposite from the truth. He makes things up all the time and folks believe him. Even when he contradicts himself and backtracks and doublespeaks they believe him. Now logically that should be an impossibility. But not with his supporters. So their brains have been affected in some way. Their perception/comprehension/reality is very different from mine. I can no more understand where they are coming from  or why than they can understand why I keep talking about it. One of the mysteries of life I guess. Right and wrong. Did folks ever agree on what that is? I'm gonna ask. Thank you for your thoughtful reply Addb.

Agreed but I think you sometimes give some of them far too much credit in terms of their ability to differentiate or notice lies.. I honestly feel, and this is a considered opinion borne of the same desire as you stated, to understand why - that some of them just really aren't that bright. They have been fed hateful indoctrination about people, other races, about how things should be...and Strumpet feeds into that. So for them he seems to confirm what they already believe and have been indoctrinated to believe... Couple that with that many of them aren't that bright.. so they don't notice or detect when he lies, when he backtracks etc..
I am not saying all are like that but a significant proportion are.. We can tell this when we try to debate or discuss it with them, they respond with anger incensed, incandescent disbelief that someone is daring to disagree, and they insult rather than debate. I honestly think that it's just that they aren't bright enough TO debate. and/or there is no substance to their argument so anger is all they can respond with..

I know it sounds mean of me to say this, but it really is what I have observed.

I think you nailed it Addb. They believe whatever he tells them because they need someone to tell them what is true and what isn't. He has been very clever. From the start he has lied about everything all the time and repeated those lies. He has made outrageous accusations and when they have borne no fruit because they were LIES he doubles down and says they are all fake hoaxy corrupt and not to be trusted. His supporters believe everything he says. It doesn't matter that he backtracks/contradicts repeatedly. They don't notice. For them reality is the NOW and whatever he says NOW is the truth. It must be nice to be so content and have so much faith in anyone. Sadly they have placed their faith in the bogus bonespur don juan. I don't know how they could exist without him. So they will die loving him and supporting him and believing in him. On the other side for the rest of us the bogus bonespur don represents pure corruption and evil. There is no middle ground. He is saint to his supporters and demon to all others. It is a sadness that gets worse. What our society has become and what it used to be. Will it ever be that again or has demon don destroyed it and polluted the ground forever? Thank you for your reply Addb. I guess his supporters simply have no control over their emotions or what they need to believe. Maybe we can't blame them if they are impotent and helpless to do otherwise. SIGH. :(
