Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Let's all play ball. When was the last time you bawled your eyes out? Ever attend a Fancy Dress Ball? Which kinda ball/bawl do y'all favor?
Well I cry easily but not for long. No never attended one. My mother wanted me to be a debutante but I fell short in the looks and deportment categories and then I left home so never happened. But many of my friends and even my cousins were debs and both my brothers were invited to and attended deb balls back in the day.
That sounds really fancy dancy og. I've only ever seen them depicted in movies. But I think you sell yourself short and it might have been a wonderful and memorable experience for you. Are you shy? Is that why you decided against it? It would be like turning down a Sweet 16 party. Oh well. Different strokes. Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday to thee! :)
Thank you. But I wasn't pretty and though I learned suitable manners I became rather disaffected and rebellious as a teenager. Shy? I could hardly talk to people then except my own cousins and friends. Don't recall anyone I knew having a Sweet 16 but in our circle many of us were debs and my mother had high hopes I would be one which were sort of shattered when I did not turn out beautiful. Its weird but though I had no interest in that stuff then now whenever I see or hear anything about debutantes I am interested. Though I know it all was sort of silly and a waste that was part of a certain culture at one time. Now I doubt many girls become debs - certainly not my brother's girls and they were all very connected. I see other cultures in this country adopting that perhaps in emulation of the way we used to be. But it was a whole formal social thing that is largely gone now - people are a lot more casual and personal now. And things are a lot less formalized.
Can't remember the last time I bawled my eyes out maybe it was when I was a baby and a rat bite me so I had to get rabies shots (needles were as thick as pencils back then so I bet I bawled about that). I go to a fancy dress ball every September it's called The Growers Ball all the Central Vancouver Island outdoor pot growers dress in hippy clothes and party like it was 1969. Cheers and happy weekend
That sounds like tons of fun Nanoose. Do you take pictures? If so maybe you could post a couple so we could see what FANCY DRESS BALL looks like? That would be really swell! The last time I bawled my eyes out was when I saw the movie HACHI. It is a true life story based on a real person, a real dog and a real event. It's about the devotion of a dog to his master after the master's death. It is heartbreakingly beautiful in my opinion. Thank you for your thoughtful and informative reply. Now is this for real or are you teasing me? A Pot Growers Ball? Seriously? :)
I sure lead a sheltered life Nanoose. In the way long ago olden days growing pot was illegal. Now they have fancy dress balls to celebrate it! My oh my how the times did change. Thank you for your reply! :)
