Are Ancestry DNA tests a scam? Or an accurate way to find out who you are?

    That's an interesting question!

For some unknown reason to me, I'd find it sort of funny if they ended up being a scam after all these years.

It could be more sinister than that even. It could be a database for the next holocaust lol

    1.  I already know who I am.

    2.  It is not a scam. A sister we thought was dead found us through Ancestry DNA. 56 years.

I bought a kit but sent it back to them when I read the terms and conditions.  No way in hell would I agree to it.

That’s put me off doing it. They could make a clone of me and have the clone get me into trouble by committing crimes

Good!!!  There are a 1000 'they coulds.'  I will never get this test unless I find a safe way.

I read some independent articles about it before sending off my sample.  It all sounded very legitimate and the results are getting more accurate and precise all the time.  I did not agree to let them share my information and it's a good thing; it turns out I'm 1% Jewish.  That could be bad news in the event of another holocaust.  On the other hand, I found out that I take more after my mother's English side of the family than my father's German side.  I was glad of that because there were some certifiable geniuses on her side.  My time may yet come! No one questions the reliability of the tests.  They have been proven to be reliable.  However, Ancestry's terms and conditions were shocking and I would NEVER agree to them.  I can't speak about any other brand.  I believe there is a way to have this done at a lab and it be covered under HIPPA.

I've learned that anything that overly advertised and Ancestry DNA is, it's a scam in some way. I'd rather do the family tree thing online. At this point in my life, I don't care about my DNA and never will. This post was edited by Zack at June 10, 2018 4:59 AM MDT
