I don't know if it is still so but in the olden days restaurants would have signs posted (see below*). Are any still posted??

*We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone". Also at the beach you'd see signs in restaurants saying you couldn't come in if you were barefoot or shirtless. How do those signs square with a baker refusing to bake a wedding cake for a same-gender couple?

    Thats why people wear underwear today when eating at resteraunts.

    Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 -- the federal law which prohibits discrimination by private businesses which are places of public accommodation -- only prevents businesses from refusing service based on race, color, religion, or national origin. Federal law does not prevent businesses from refusing service to customers based on sexual orientation. So if there are no state or local laws to the contrary, private business owners may legally choose to refuse service to customers based on their sexual orientation (including gays, lesbians, etc) and some have publically done just that. Much to the chagrin of many people including some politicians. So they do square. :)
