    Pat Boone?

Good music died in the nineties, sure enough, but ya gotta think about the birth of RocknRoll in the 50’s.

Music has been very high quality ever since J. S. Bach got hired to write music for a family chapel. And that remains true even for the periods when you didn't like the styles. (I don't mean to include the bad poetry and drum solos we sometimes get.)

But your personal definition of "good" music probably means whatever was at the top of the chart during the summer of your 14th year.

The link sux, but it's the only one that goes back before 1980.
