I'd rather have all of my teeth to make such a decision. With what's left I use a baking soda/peroxide solution.

It hit me today when I opened my newly-bought toothpaste from its carton and I realized I was disappointed because it had one of the attached-type caps. :)
Now that you've made me think about it, I guess I prefer the attached type because I can deal with it one-handed which is more efficient. I don't forget to put it back on; it's an automatic gesture. Now I am going to have to check the type of cap before I buy toothpaste. Life just got even more complicated.
The one-handed aspect it a good benefit. :) Even more complicated - - the cartons/boxes that my toothpaste come in do not indicate what type of caps there will be when I open it. :)
:) Yeah, it's not something major but I was disappointed that I got an attached type when I opened my carton of toothpaste today. Partly for ALF's reason in his answer is why I prefer the screw on/off kind. Hey, as long as the toothpaste comes out, it's all good, ha! :)
