Every Summer at sunset I hear a large volume of bug sounds sweeping the sky, is it crickets, or what is it?

    Unknown.  It's definitely crickets around here.  The frogs kick in at nautical twilight (between 9:30 and 10).

    I think it's your brain cells feverishly passing your ear drums.  They are telling you, once again, you're losing your mind because you are too hot and should go inside and have some ice tea.

    Crickets or cicadas. Also could be alien thought monitoring signals. You need one of these.
