I am shaking my head at everyone who claims they are "offended" by this situation.
Where were they up to this point?  Since EVERY "child services" agency in this nation has been fouled up for generations.

They didn't just suddenly decide to give different case numbers to parents and children.
I have mentioned before about Oregon taking AMERICAN children from parents and sending them to alleged family in foreign nations, where many of those children have died or were enslaved.
Nor is it uncommon for "child services" workers to be so overworked that there are currently thousands of children in abusive situations.
And don't even get me started on the lack of oversight in the foster system.
Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of AMERICAN children have been abused and neglected by the system.

If the situation with the "immigrants" were resolved POOF! ... Americans would go right back to ignoring the failed system that is in every state.

Geez Wal if you have mentioned it before I am unaware of it. I had NO IDEA! Color me ignorant! :( So I guess I didn't know you then or we never crossed paths but what you say here is new to me and no that doesn't make me feel very good. Thank you for your informative and very awful reply (the awful is not your fault). So it's been screwed for years then and this abomination of ZERO TOLERANCE exacerbates it! Swell as he**! Just what we needed. Timing is PERFECT! So where do we go from here? This post was edited by RosieG at June 22, 2018 11:41 AM MDT

Every time there is an audit of a "child services" agency, there are pages and pages of recommendations to improve them.

Guess what they boil down to?
    More people and more money.

It's the same problem American healthcare faces ... the majority wants better service, but the majority also isn't willing to pay the higher taxes it would require.

The rallying cry is "For the children!" ... up to the point it hits the wallet, at which point the cry changes to "No new taxes!"

This is one of those "unintended consequences" situations.

The courts have ruled you can't detain children for more than 20 days.
AND if you do hold them at all, it has to be in a facility that meets conditions for "child care".

Yet we can detain adults who come into the country illegally, until such time as they have a hearing to be either granted asylum or deported.

So what do you do?  Remembering that there are (I heard) only 300 immigration judges and 800,000 cases backlogged.

President Obama choose not to detain the parents ... hoping that they could be tracked down later (many couldn't be) and would voluntarily show up for a hearing (many didn't).  So that didn't work well.

President Trump choose to detain the parents ... but then you have to either have the hearing in 20 days, if you keep the kids with the parents in a "childcare" facility ... or separate the kids from the parents.

Some have suggested using ankle monitors.  But I highly doubt we have 800,000 devices, let alone the people to monitor everyone.

Some have suggested we just let the border open and allow everyone to come in.
