In the olden days of respectability criminals got punished. Today we protect them. Lie for them. Deny for them. Die for them?

But one of the reasons the "olden days" were "respectable" was that we respected one another on a simple human level.  And we saw no reason to excoriate and demonize anyone we did not happen to agree with.  It was more live and let live.
