It depends on the teacher. Good teachers are rare, and they are not always found in schools.

Thank you for your reply JV. I must have been very lucky then because I've had more than my share of good teachers. I only ever had one LEMON in the sixth grade. Thank you for your reply. i find a classroom infinitely more informative than reading a book. You get the advantage of listening to what other people think and having a teacher to guide you through and help you focus on what's important. That's just me.   :)

You can learn many things alone without teachers. However, we grow up with parents who are also our best teachers. Then every person you meet is a teacher. You can learn something from them. You have to be allowed to be taught by others and your environment.

Learning alone works, especially if you are very curious and like the process of investigation. Research can be fun and rewarding.

As for me, I like the combination: learn alone, have a teacher, and be in a class.

Combo works for me too with the much larger share of it being in the company of other people.  I NEED soundingboards Marguerite.  People to bounce my ideas off of. Which you must know because why else would I keep asking so many questions nfor all these years both here and on Answerbag? If I had the answers or knew the answers enough to satisfy me I would not be here. There would be no point to it. Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday! :)
