Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Is there any intrinsic value in being "unique" even if that uniqueness is seen as a negative force that harms? How important is unique?
Isn't every living person unique Rosie.....even an exact clone of yourself would grow up completly different as no two people could experience the exact same things daily as they age..... Who is to say that your clone won't be killed in a crash or die from cancer.... We are all unique and all individuals all at the same time I think......:)
Hitler was unique. Trump is unique. But millions of people don't stick out, don't distinguish themselves, don't become household names. They are unique in their very small circle. Beyond that they are unknown. They don't exist to those who have no knowledge of them. There are no books about them. No achievements for which they are noted worldwide. Nothing that makes them memorable on a world scale. Will Rogers was memorable for all the right reasons. Those who did something First that had never been done before are memorable. Those who invented something that benefitted others or changed the world. The monsters who grievous harmed others. Those you read about in school. Distinctive. Distinguished or EVIL. What causes anyone to become well-known enough to be considered newsworthy/.newsworthy? How many billions of people have led lives that were quite ordinary about whom we will never know anything because they blend into the background and are neither creators nor destroyers? Now one of my favorite lines from a poem is from Thomas Gray's "Elegy in a Country Churchyard". I think that's the title. "Full many a flower is born to blush unseen and waste its sweetness on the desert air". One of the saddest lines I've ever read. How many Shakespeare's might have been out there to whom no opportunity was given to shine? What child might have died from starvation who might have discovered a cure for cancer? Impossible to answer but valid nevertheless. I guess I'm rambling. Yes. We are unique to those who know us. But how many people does that include? Thank you for your reply D! :)
