    I don't think it's a matter intelligence ... more a matter of beliefs.

For example, there are many intelligent people who refuse to believe that climate change is real ... despite the scientific evidence.
But (in general) humans don't readily accept change - so when their beliefs are challenged, they would rather believe in "fake news" or conspiracies.
And they feel that they are being attacked, so they lash out at their "attackers" rather than examine the evidence with an open mind.

This is also why there is a history of the Christian Church persecuting scientists and anyone who dares voice serious questions about their beliefs.

Your argument is sound and seems very logical to me Walt. I guess it isn't so much how high the IQ is but rather how it is used or abused or unused. If it were possible to filter out all emotion and just go by the thinking apparatus which all of us have to one degree or another maybe it wouldn't be so awful. How much does emotion influence thinking? I'm gonna ask. It probably varies a great deal among folks. If there is absolute PROOF that 2 plus 2 equals 4 I find it hard to find any intelligence anywhere among those who insist it doesn't. I know one doesn't get emotional about math so much but you get my point. Emotions certainly get in the way of logic. Intelligence should be based on logic. How often is it?  Thank you for your very thoughtful answer and Happy Friday to you m'dear! :)

I am bemused by this too... in that, it often does seem to boil down to intelligence.. or that's the word that comes up again and again... rather than engage in reasoned argument/debate insults about intelligence come to the fore...

I take some things at face value and don't question them Addb. My emotions are not in play. When we're told 2 plus 2 equals 4 we accept it. We don't attack or try to sabotage it or prove it wrong.  But when emotion is part of the mix that's when things get bollexed up. I'm not emotional about math. It is cut and dried. But politics is a different story. I don't know if you saw or heard about the grilling yesterday that an Intelligence agent was subjected to by House pols but all the stupidity and dumbheaded fury thrown at him by all the Republicans on the panel was so embarrassing. Attack dogs with saliva dripping down their faces. You could see their fangs and hear the barking and see the rage in their eyes. All mad in the sense of whackadoodly crazy.  It produced sights and sounds that I shall not soon forget. None of them worked off brains or thought or intelligence. Every single one of the Republican were like dogs gone mad and you could see the foam in their mouths and the crazy in their eyes nd the words were beyond insane. SIGH. The guy on the hot seat handled it very well. The adult there. Someone had to be and he was it. The Dems on the panel spent a lot of time apologizing to him for the mad bad ugly disgusting rude behavior of their Republican  colleagues. The circus was in town yesterday. Only clowns showed up.  Hope everyone got their money's worth. Thank you for your reply Addb! :)
