We just bought a brand new telescope. What should we look at first?

Maybe you should just get some glasses and a hearing aid.  I'm wondering if that is the cause of this.  Maybe you are not hearing what I hear and seeing what the world sees.

The obvious answer is Uranus.  However, might I suggest the moon?  No, not the moon in your neighbor's window as that can lead to a broken telescope (and let me tell you, it's no fun having your telescope in a cast for 6 weeks).

Study the sun for a little bit every day.  I had a telescope long time ago;  it was interesting to watch where the sunspots were changing all the time. 

First ... it depends on if it's a telescope designed for astronomy or not.

If not ... I'd recommend the college dorm of your favorite gender.
