My dad did as well and so did my brother-in-law. No tapering down over time. One day they smoked. The next day they didn't and neither one ever had a relapse or cheated. They made up their minds and that was that! Retroactive congrats L! :) ((hugs))
I read somewhere long ago that the reason why some folks can quit cold turkey and others can't is because some are PSYCHOLOGICALLY addicted to smoking while others are only physically addicted. I guess a physical addiction is easier to break away from than one that is psychological. I never quite understood that though. Have you heard that L? Thank you for your reply sweetie and Happy Thursday! Oh also someone said that smoking helped them keep their weight down and if they stopped they feared getting fat. Well that didn't happen to anyone I knew who quit. What about you? Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday L.! :)
One of the greatest things in your favor when you decide to quit is really wanting to give up cigarettes - you're motivated. If you only go at it half-heartedly, it probably won't work. The physical effects of nicotine leave the body within a week, but the psychological ones take a lot longer. Also, smoking is a habit and you have to break that habit by thinking about when you smoke and doing something to distract yourself to change your behavior. I used to have dinner (or any meal), and immediately light a cigarette, then clear the dishes and wash them. I stopped doing that and cleared the table and washed the dishes as soon as I finished eating. You have to distract yourself to form new habits. Yes, I did gain weight - about 25 pounds over a year and then menopause struck and I gained more weight. It's been a battle ever since!
((hugs)) Proud of you I am for what it's worth. I cannot know experientially the degree of difficulty never having been a fan of the death stick. But I've observed those who were caught in its web who fought to get free. Good on thee L! Thank you for your reply! :)
You're welcome my friend and thanks for going through all that. Else you might not be here and that would have been a great loss to me personally though I never would have known about you! :)
