I would say a joke is not "phoney" if it makes us laugh. Which we all need. Of course some people think they are being really funny when I don't think they are being so at all but that would just be a matter of taste. Because maybe someone will appreciate their jokes. And if we are able to laugh at ourselves and our condition and circumstances and environment - I mean really laugh - then so much the better. Anything to keep us from becoming just bitter about life.
All the cement every day..... So many things and people hitting you in the face... Its time to organize some priorities before being hacked by the vultures..
The irony here is in reference to “under the earth’s sun”, because the first and most common object of man’s worship is the sun. Fair to say it is oblivious to our worship.
