How many of you already have a REAL ID CARD? You have until October 1, 2020 to get one. Will ya?

The REAL ID Act was passed in 2005 in response to 9/11

You will need a REAL ID CARD to board domestic flights, enter military bases or most government facilities.

What is required to obtain your REAL ID is as follows:

CERTIFIED US BIRTH CERTIFICATE   The original won't do
VALID US PASSPORT
EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION DOCUMENT
PERMANENT RESIDENT CARD if you are not an American citizen
FOREIGN PASSPORT WITH AN APPROVED 1-94 FORM

In California you must also show a residence document that includes your address. A utility bill for example
You need a PHOTO ID
You need your valid Social Security card and/or a paystub showing your social security number

Don't know what the costs are. Do know it will take time and preparation.

If you don't get a REAL ID card because you don't travel or go to military bases or government buildings you can still get an ordinary Driver's License but it will state you are not REAL.  Or whatever.

So now ya know. How many of you plan to comply?

Oh er.. sounds a bit controlling..  ID cards have been postulated about here in the UK for ages... I hope they don't - it's bad enough as it is that now you are supposed to bring a passport when you go for an interview/start a new job to prove you are you and that you have a right to work in the UK.. I suppose there are some uses but my instincts tell me I don't like it..

I have a DBS check which enables me to work with children and vulnerable adults.. you have to prove who you are for that too with several forms of ID

Jim and I won't bother. We don't need a REAL ID. We have gotten by with a regular Driver's License since we were 16. Nothing has changed about our place or date of birth. There is no reason to jump through hoops to satisfy some law that people think will make them safer. More power to them and condolences too. Which brings up another question. Thank you for your reply Addb!  :)

It was passed to an upgraded Driver's License. As of yet most states are still fighting it.
It was meant to prevent illegals from getting a DL as most of the 911 hijackers did have.
I do not plan to get one if at all avoidable.

Although this photo is not me, I have one with my picture. It is really real.

Yes. I can go to any military facility with it. I don't have a passport and will never need one.

Jim and I have never had passports either nor will we ever need them. Certainly not at our ages. Flying anywhere is an ordeal these days. In the olden days you could go to Mexico and Canada without a passport. I wonder if the day will come when you need a passport to go from state to state? I"m gonna ask. Thank you for your reply and Happy Tuesday! :)

I'm not surprised at all m'dear. Considering we're both Scorpios our minds wander around and about wondering and pondering about this and that and the other. I mean maybe all we're doing is reading the handwriting on the wall which for some is in invisible ink but for us it is very clear. "We'll see what happens"! Thank you for your reply Ele and Happy Tuesday! :) This post was edited by RosieG at August 14, 2018 7:19 AM MDT

I don't need a "real ID card" to be real.

I believe those are already required for traveling.
